Mr. Markham - Jacky and Stephen
Students: Jacky Quan & Stephen Han
Subject: Science
Sites/Tools Used: Google sites
Description: For this placement, we were asked to create a brand new website for our placement teacher. He already had a Gmail account so after discussing it with him, he decided to stick with Google, and so the website was to be built on Google sites.
We had some room for creativity in terms of theme and layout, as we were building the site from scratch. We decided on a simple white and blue colour scheme because it was professional and appealing to the eye. We added separate pages and different sections of the site (separate pages for each of his different classes) because it was going to be used for all of his different science classes next semester.
We also added in a calendar to the site, so that he can keep his students updated on upcoming assignments/projects/quizzes/tests. Then we added a contact page and a form on the page, so that students can provide feedback to his classes, as well as ask him any questions. We linked the form to his Gmail account, so that whenever someone submits a form, it will be recorded on a spreadsheet and he will receive a notification email.
Link to the site: https://sites.google.com/site/mrmarkhamsclasses/
Google sites: This website was built with Google sites, and it was made completely new for our placement teacher.
Google sites is a very good platform for teachers because it has a very small learning curve due to its simple interface. It can be used for multiple subjects because these sites are very flexible and there are many different options in terms of themes and ways of organizing information. The site can be used in sync with a teacher's Google mail account, and existing Google calendars can be put on the site. Also, forms can be easily created and included on the site so the students can submit questions/feedback to the teacher online.
