Mr.Simpson - Zoe
Teacher: Mr.Simpson (Art Department)
Subject: Visual Arts, Media Arts, Graphics, Film
Technology Used: Weebly, Dropbox
Description:
Mr. Simpson wanted me to update his website that the IDC students from last year created from him. I changed the layout to something a little more pleasing to the eye and a bit easier to organize so that after I was finished working with him he could understand how to update the information himself. I also organized some of the current information on the website and added some new resources and elements such as tutorials and worksheets as well as image slide shows of student work. He also wanted me to fix up the galleries that he had on the site so I fixed it so that the different galleries were linked to the pages through an image preview.
He also wanted me to find him an easier way for his students to submit work that wasn't as scattered and unorganized. He had an external hard drive that his students submitted work on but it wasn't very effective so I looked into some other platforms they could use. We settled on a DropBox account so that his students could all access the account at the same time and they could submit work from home as well. I created a form on his website for the students to submit their emails so I could invite them to the account and increase the available upload space.
Finally he wanted me to share some of the knowledge I have gained in the last year and a half with his students so I did two workshops, one for each of his classes this semester. I created hand outs for the students to follow along while I spoke as well as keep the information for future reference and assignments. I used examples of my past work and other assignments that I too had to complete for him in those classes during grade 11. I spoke to his class about general information regarding their up coming assignments and gave them tips and tricks for their work they had to complete by the end of the semester.

Weebly is an easy to use and free website creation platform that just about anyone can use. It is helpful for teachers because they can easily edit their very own website for students to ask questions, pick up missing assignments and catch up on missed lessons. Teachers can upload downloadable documents, post forms for students to complete and post deadlines and important information for students to have access to whenever they want. It is also helpful for students to create their own websites outside of school, they can add blogs, share videos and interesting images and promote their skills and talents through straight forward and simple to edit drag and drop elements.
DropBox is an organizing and sharing website that helps anyone upload and catalogue all of their files and images into easily accessible folders. Teachers can create DropBox accounts to receive assignments from students in a controlled and put together manner. The students can upload their assignments, essays and worksheets onto the DropBox and teachers can access the work from anywhere and on pretty much any device.
