Ms. Cheung - Jacky Quan & Stephen Han
Students: Stephen Han, Jacky Quan
Subject: Science
Sites/Tools Used: Google Sites, Camtasia Studio
Description:
For the placement with Ms. Cheung, we were asked to change the look of her website and make it more appealing to the students. Also, she wanted to add more functions to make her site a better resource for her class. Lastly, she wanted to move some of her gadgets around to make her website easier to navigate.
We looked over the whole to site to figure out what we can do to improve the website and realized that the text did not stand out from the background, meaning the contrast between the two was poor. Also the site was not easy to navigate through since pages were not organized.
We came up with some ideas for the new layout of the site and some ideas for the color scheme. We first changed the colors of the site, going with a dark gray color theme. Then we organized the pages into separate categories so that it would be easier for students to navigate the site. Some of the existing pages were converted into subpages and then organized into their respective category (e.g. Resources). An announcements page was created for Ms. Cheung so that she can update her students of any date changes or update them with information quickly and efficiently. Also, the calendar was moved to the front page so that students can quickly look at what's coming up in their class (e.g. assignments, projects, tests, quizzes).

Google Sites: The website was built with Google Sites, and our placement teacher wanted us to stick with the current platform. We continued to use it and we simply improved on its design/layout. Google sites is a very good platform for teachers because it has a very small learning curve due to its simple interface. It can be used for multiple subjects because these sites are very flexible and there are many different options in terms of themes and ways of organizing information. The site can be used in sync with a teacher's Google mail account, and existing Google calendars can be put on the site.
