Ms. Dyke - Niesanthan
Teacher: Ms. Dyke
Subject: Computer Programming- ICS 20, ICS 3U
Technology Used: Website- Wordpress.com
Description: For my IDC placement I was asked to make a website for Ms. Dyke's Grade 10 and Grade 11 programming class. I was asked to use wordpress.com as the template for the website. We made an account under Ms. Dyke's name, so that I could begin work on the website. I was given some tasks as to how Ms. Dyke wanted the website, so I started to work on the site. My job was to make a template and organize the website in a way, so that Ms. Dyke would be able to upload her content onto the site.
I started out choosing the Twenty-Ten template for the site. I began to make changes to the home page to fill out the school and teacher details. Next, I filled in the About page with the course details. I was given a list of the lessons that Ms. Dyke would cover in each of her classes and I entered the list under the top-level tab, Lessons, so that they would be organized neatly. I was also able to edit the sidebar allowing Ms. Dyke to add links of articles for each of her classes and made a new page on the site for students to comment on the articles. I made any minor tweaks that Ms. Dyke wanted and she liked the end result.

Grade 11:http://jdykegrade11.wordpress.com/
Other Uses
The website can be used for a simple layout for all teachers to use. The teachers only need to make minor tweaks to the Lesson Plan, change the teacher name, and add in their course outline for the about page. The website is set up in a format, so that teachers only need to upload their content onto the website without the hassle of having to start a website from the beginning. I would recommend that teachers use wordpress.com for their website because there is a lot that one can do with this website.
