Ms. Hanna - Jane Lor
Teacher: Ms. Hanna
Subject Area: Grade 9 French and Grade 10 English
Technology Used: Webs and PowerPoint
Description of Project:
Ms. Hanna needed a website refresher and re-learn how to use her website (GoogleSites). She would like to improve her website for all her classes by adding a handout and notes page for her students to access. Ms. Hanna wanted a class website that would allow her students to access it from home and give her students a chance to interact with her outside of school.
After going through her original class website, she found it difficult to use and decided to change her website host. She asked me to create a few sample sites using different web hosts. The web hosts must be easy to use and include three main features: a calendar, a large upload space as well as easy to use. We looked at a few websites together and found that the web host that suited her needs was Webs. I was able to create a website that would allow all of her students from the different classes to access and get the information needed for their class. Here is the link to Ms. Hanna's Website. On her website, we included a calendar, assignments & handouts, resources and a contact page making it more interactive for her students. Using Photoshop, I was able to create a logo for her website in order to fit her layout design.
After spending roughly 3-4 weeks creating the website and finalizing the project, I was asked to come to her period 3, grade 9 french class to show her grade 9 students how to access and use the website. I went in during the half day on October 24th and gave a 10 minute presentation on using the website and how it will benefit them.
At the end of the project, Ms. Hanna and I thought it would be a good idea to create a guide on how to use Webs. It would be helpful for Ms. Hanna and any other teacher who decides they would like to create their class website using Webs. I spent 2 days creating the PowerPoint and adding relevant information for beginner users.

Possible Uses in Other Classes/Subject Areas:
Webs offers "drag and drop" interface and themes for users creating a new website. This is helpful for those who are starting off with a simple website and are just learning how to use a program. With their "drag and drop" interface, people are able to quickly adapt and won't be overwhelmed with the amount of options given. Webs has great features such as: a calendar, members page (forum), 400 MB upload space and many more modules. This web host is great for those who are starting a small business or teachers who want are just learning how to use more advanced technology.
Microsoft PowerPoint is the one of most popular program students use at school. It is ideal for making presentations. But in this case, I used PowerPoint to create a guide for Ms. Hanna and any other teachers to refer to when they are unsure on how to do something. It is great for adding large images with text on the side explaining the picture. In my Jing video, you will see the different slides included in the PowerPoint to make it look like a guide. PowerPoint can be used in business classes (ex. presentation in accounting), english class or any project requiring a presentation. It is quick, easy and simple and allows students to put together a short presentation that is visually appealing.
