Technology Used: Prezi, Google Docs, Google Sites, Jing
Description:
Ms. Kantor asked us to teach her grade 10 Spanish class how to use Prezi and Google Docs. She asked us to incorporate technology into project and we then agreed on making the Family Tree assignment into a Prezi presentation rather than a bristle board presentation. Because Prezi is new to many of the students in the class, we conducted a workshop on how to this technology. We also created a sample family tree Prezi, following the criteria of the original assignment. A week later, we hosted a follow-up workshop working individually with students that had trouble creating their Prezi and sharing it with the teacher. Ms. Kantor also asked us to incorporate the use of Google Docs into her class. A lot of the students didn’t know how to share their documents with the teacher, and comment in real time. Therefore, we created a workshop specifically to teach the students how to properly use Google Docs.
For the grade 11 class, we held the same workshop. The grade 11 Spanish class are required to include the use Voice Thread or Jing in their ISP. We decided to use materials from last year’s IDC student as a tutorial on how to use these technologies. We also offered an afterschool workshop for the students that had difficulties, but the grade 11 class felt that the tutorial videos provided were adequate.
Aside from teaching her students on how to use those technologies, we also worked with her one-on-one helping her develop a Google Site for her Spanish classes.
