Ms. Teper - James Im, Kim Le, Stacy Ma
Teacher: Ms. Teper (Science Department)
Subject Area: Grade 11 Chemistry
Technology Used: ClipConverter, Google Drive, Google Sites, Snipping Tool, Paint
Description:
For our placement, Ms. Teper wanted us to improve the functionality of her website and come up with solutions for the limited storage space provided by Google Sites for her Grade 11 Chemistry website. She wanted to move the files on a shareable storage database in order to upload a greater amount of videos and other resources for her students. This assignment required us to experiment with different storage technologies (Dropbox, Google Drive, etc.) until it was decided that Google Drive would be the simplest technology to integrate onto her website.
Class materials were obtained from Ms. Teper and were consequently uploaded and organized into one folder of class materials consisting of multiple sub-folders organized by unit. A link was then created on her class website to allow anyone with the link to access the folder. The issue of having YouTube videos brought down from the video sharing site made us come up with the solution of downloading the requested videos using ClipConverter and inputting those into the folder as well.
After the storage issue had been solved and shown to Ms. Teper, she requested a step-by-step document with instructions on how to add, delete, and move files within the Google folder and the pages within her website, and how to create announcements found on her website. Using a Google Document that was shared with Ms. Teper, we created a document highlighting all the steps for each process, accompanied by screenshots. This document can be accessed below:

Below is a presentation summarizing what we have done for this placement. We have included screenshots of both the website (which can be accessed here) and the Google Drive folder.
Possible Uses in Other Classes/Subject Areas:
Google Sites, as a website platform, is programmed to integrate other Google platforms onto the interface of the respective site. Google Drive folders can be integrated into the website platform and pages in effort to store and share more files and resources to the classes. In subjects requiring presentations or worksheets, Google Sites can offer integration of a Google folder into the site and make access easy and efficient.
Google Drive is a technology that is familiar among a vast majority of teachers and students. When introduced to a class or website, most users would come in with the knowledge of knowing Google Drive is a file storage and synchronization service that offers collaboration between teachers and students. Drive can be used to store the materials of any classes and shared among the students when posted onto their respective websites.
ClipConverter is available for use when teachers find a video online that would be a useful resource to their class. It can be used download the videos when in fear it will be taken down later on and to assure his or her classes will be able to view the informational video. Videos such as tutorials, supplementary videos, and short crash course videos found on YouTube can prove to be a useful resource in supporting and solidifying the newer information taught to students.
Snipping Tool can be found on all computers provided by the school in every classroom. Selecting only what is needed, the Snipping Tool can be used to take screenshot images available to be shared to the class and/or saved for later reference.
Paint is an editing program found on all computers that can be used to draw and crop images. Like the snipping tool, if teachers wished to screenshot their displays and draw boxes around specific features to emphasise the feature of focus, Paint is a simple tool allowing to do so.
