Description of the Project
Ms. Tsopelas asked us to create a website for her science and physics classes. She wanted to have a website that have a main page that linked to all the courses, as well as separate news and calendar pages for each course. Ms. Tsopelas wanted each calendar page to have:
- documents that can be downloaded by clicking a button on the calendar date
- plain text for descriptions
Upon Ms. Tsopelas' request, we created a Technology Guide. This is a pdf document that has a table of contents hyperlinking to the different sections in the guide. It shows the teacher how to link documents to the Google Calendar, and how to edit the Weebly site.
Possible Uses of Technology in Other Classes/Subject Areas:
Google Calendar
Google Calendar is a useful tool to update and share important information and documents with students. Teachers can add events onto the calendar so that students will be informed about upcoming quizzes, tests, and assignments. This would be especially helpful when students are not at school. Along with descriptions and events, Google Calendar allows you to upload documents using code under each day right onto the calendar. Teachers can easily organize their documents onto the google calendar, to keep track of lessons completed and worksheets that were given in class.
Weebly
Weebly is a great site for teachers to use. As opposed to Google Sites, Weebly is more user-friendly, and the pages can easily be edited. Weebly allows you to create pages for each course, with subpages that teachers can use to separate calendars and uploaded documents. Teachers can upload documents and videos using widgets on the site. In addition, Google Calendar can be easily embedded into the website. This way, teachers can add events and documents onto their google calendar, and it would automatically appear on the Weebly site for students to view.
Google Drive
Google Drive is very useful for collaborating and storing documents and files online. Teachers would be able to store their documents online and allows students to access and download them by sharing their links and/or posting the links onto their website, if they have one. Google Drive has features such as Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Drawing, where teammates can collaborate and edit documents simultaneously.
